Equus Coaching
A private, unmounted coaching experience in which the horse becomes an honest, non-judgmental partner in the change you want to create.
Why horses?
Horses are herd animals who live through awareness, connection and clear communication. They pay close attention to movement, posture, focus and the way we use space. They may respond to emotional cues that are present even when we are trying to appear fine.
Their response is immediate and without a human agenda. In the round pen, at liberty, or simply standing beside a horse, you begin to notice how you ask, how you listen, how you wait, how you hold a boundary and what happens when things do not go to plan. When you change something, the horse may respond differently, giving you the opportunity to practise a clearer, steadier or more confident response.
This is not a metaphor discussed from a distance. It is an experience you can feel in your body, reflect on with your coach and connect to life beyond the barn.
What a session may hold
Every session is shaped around you. There is no performance to get right and no requirement to ride.
We explore what is happening now and what you would like to feel, understand, or do differently.
I create a purposeful interaction with the horse at a pace that respects your readiness.
Together we make sense of the response, the patterns it reveals, and the resources already available to you.
We connect the learning to life beyond the arena and choose an achievable next step.
We meet at the barn and begin with a conversation about what has brought you there and what you would like to understand or change. There is nothing to perform and nothing you need to have prepared. Before we begin with a horse, I explain what we will be doing, introduce you to the horse and make sure you feel comfortable and safe.
Much of the experience takes place in the round pen, and all the work is unmounted. Depending on you, the horse and what we are exploring, you might lead the horse, spend time together quietly or work at liberty, where the horse is free to move and respond. You may be invited to explore a simple activity involving movement, direction, personal space, boundaries or connection.
The purpose is not to test your horsemanship or make the horse perform. It is an opportunity to notice, in the moment, how you ask, how you wait, how clearly you communicate and what happens when things do not go as expected. We pause throughout to consider what you are noticing, then sit down afterwards to make sense of the experience and connect it with your life beyond the barn.
No horse experience is needed. Comfortable boots and clothes you do not mind getting dusty are all you need.
